Kuratas, tomorrows Sci-Fi today.
I’m sure most of us have always wanted to get inside a giant robot and take control of it, shooting, stomping and rending everything in front of you. well, now you can, for a mere 1.35 million dollars you can own your very own death machine, custom built to carry and use whatever weapon you want. Fortunately the company that produces these behemoths (http://suidobashijuko.jp) doesn’t supply your arsenal of choice, rather it fits them with air-soft or “BB” replicas. Not to worry though, you can remove the replica weapons and fit it with your own, hopefully legal, arsenal of your own.
Kuratas is named after it’s creator, a Japanese steel-smith who always had a love for robots and science fiction. It’s programmer is a Doctoral student. Both of them shared the same dream of creating mechanized, life sized robots that can be operated much like a car. They refuse to sell to any military organization and instead say they sell them for fun and “self defense for the wealthy”. Iron man?
At the moment, Kuratas is still in it’s prototype phase and won’t be on sale for a while yet. Though over 3000 orders have already been made (minus a few because some people thought it was some kind of joke and ordered one anyways). Considering Kuratas is more or less completely covered in a bulletproof casing, it’s really isn’t going to be long before governments and military organizations are going to start producing these themselves once they get their hands on a few early models. I’m putting my money on these things being the future of modern warfare. It’ll certainly make it a lot more … interesting.
